Verdict:
The Volvo FM is an excellent safe choice for a vehicle in the regional distribution sector. The direct vision is very good owing to its cab design and mid height mounting, further helped by the availability of an optional camera monitor system to partially replace conventional mirrors. Very good driver assistance systems, ranging from driver and crew seat belt reminders, speed assistance systems and direct driver monitoring for driver attentiveness, deliver a high Safe Driving score. The FM achieves a very good score in Collision Avoidance, with every system that Euro NCAP assess being available including automated braking to protect a cyclist where the truck turns across their path when the direction indicator is used. Its very good direct vision, supported by the camera monitor systems, combined with very good AEB for vulnerable road users earns the Volvo FM our CitySafe award alongside its 5 stars when the right options are specified.
