Verdict:
The Scania R-series was retested this year and earnt another star due to performance enhancements by the manufacturer meaning that, in both rigid and tractor configurations, it can be a very safe choice for operators when specified with the correct optional equipment. The R-series continues to be a solid performer with a balanced approach across Safe Driving and Collision Avoidance. It is available with nearly all of the driver assistance systems Euro NCAP consider and they perform well. The vision fundamentals are good, but the end result is still limited by obstructions from conventional mirrors. The range benefits from a zero-emission variant, which complies with Euro NCAP's post crash safety requirements. Overall, its a good option particularly for highway operations, provided the appropriate options are selected at purchase.
