Verdict:
The Renault Trucks D Medium achieves a 4-star rating with a range of safe driving and crash avoidance features which overall perform well. Acceptable direct vision is supported by an optional lower door window, however conventional mirrors are retained. Optional surround view and nearside camera monitor systems support close proximity vision. A close following distance warning is available and the ACC and AEB were very good in front to rear collisions with other vehicles. The AEB was also good in frontal collisions with pedestrians and cyclists. A recent Renault Trucks update is if the AEB system is deactivated, it automatically reactivates within 15 minutes to maintain protection. An optional AEB system addressing nearside turning collisions with cyclists performs acceptably, requiring the use of the direction indicator, which limits its performance compared to competitors. An active lane support system is not available. The broad range of safety features also earn the D Medium the CitySafe label, making it a good choice for regional distribution operations providing the correct options are selected.
