Verdict:
Renault Trucks offers their D model in a variant targeted to the City Distribution sector, gaining a 4-star rating with CitySafe award. The Direct Vision is good, enhanced by an optional Lower Door Window. Visibility is further enhanced by an optional camera system providing an extended 360 view around the vehicle, as well as a separate view of the nearside when turning, enhancing visibility of close-proximity hazards. AEB systems were effective in truck to vehicle scenarios, both with and without ACC. The system also good at preventing frontal collisions with Vulnerable Road Users (VRUs), such as cyclists and pedestrians, commonly encountered in urban environments. Renault Trucks D also has marginal performance in cyclist in a nearside turn collision scenario but required activation of the vehicle’s indicator for operation which is another limitation compared to higher performing systems. No Lane Keep Assist system is available on this vehicle at time of testing. The range of safety equipment and performance mean the Renault Trucks D is a good option for operators in city environments, providing the rated optional safety equipment is selected.
