Truck Safety 2026 – 3 stars
Verdict:
The DAF XB is targeted towards the City Distribution sector, and in testing achieved a 3-star rating but no CitySafe award. The Direct Vision is good, giving visibility to the driver of hazards around the vehicle, in part due the optional Lower Door window. No Camera Monitoring System (CMS) was available on the vehicle to enhance visibility around the vehicle at time of rating. Frontal collision AEB was adequate for preventing front to rear collisions with vehicles, both with and without use of ACC. Likewise, the protection for Vulnerable Road Users (VRUs) such as pedestrians and cyclists in frontal impacts were also adequate, offering room for improvement in both areas. The XB is not yet offered with a system that can protect cyclists in a Nearside Turn Across Path scenario, nor has any system capable of Lane Keeping functionality. Given its good vision and adequate frontal collision avoidance performance, the XB is a fair choice for city distribution applications. While the performance of its crash avoidance systems did not match that of the highest-rated vehicles in the sector, DAF offers many of its safety features as standard fitted equipment.
