VW Tayron
1.5 eTSI Life DSG petrol FWD automatic
Sustainability Rating: 2½ stars
Our verdict:
The VW Tayron tested here is equipped with a 1.5-litre petrol engine supported by 48 V mild-hybridisation. Although the achievements in the exhaust emissions part of Clean Air Index are creditable, the overall results remain constrained by the high fuel consumption values.
- Controls exhaust emissions very effectively in all test conditions and achieves a high Clean Air score. Scores above average for tyre abrasion but has only limited potential to mitigate brake abrasion through regenerative braking.
- Records unremarkable fuel consumption, with 5.6 l/100 km on the mixed on-road test and 6.7 l/100 km in urban driving, lab test values being significantly higher depending on the scenario. The measured consumption figures limit the energy-efficiency score.
- Produces high life cycle GHG emissions due to its relatively high consumption, mass and size. Reaches 263 g CO2-eq./km, including 163 g CO2-eq./km from direct exhaust emissions.
Driving Experience
Our comments:
The Driving Experience evaluation of conventional vehicles focuses only on the performance in the section 'Consumption and Range'. The VW Tayron's estimated real-world consumption figures are seen mostly as adequate with urban driving being scored as poor in both warm and cold weather. The consumption readings on the computer display board are accurate.
